by Miss Elle.

I’ve always been a “cat person”. Not like Dimitri Martin’s interpretation of a cat person, which is more of a cat-person-hybrid… But just generally a person who enjoys the occasional company of a cat.

Anyway, this never extended into my place of work (read: kitchen-slash-office) until yesterday, when I was scavenging ye olde internet for some good eco-conscious fashion-related fodder and came across a simply titled boutique named Evil Kitty who, at first glance, populated their store with punk-rock-princess and pseudo-goth-related apparel. Now, don’t get me wrong, I definitely had my concerns – I went through that stage at 13, 14… Hot Topic was all I cared for, and Evil Kitty would have been a swoon-worthy nickname.

And I would have loved these clothes, but had no idea how to wear them. Picture Emily The Strange:

See? She’s a cat person, too. Now, imagine she got all growed up, and met Daphne Guinness along the way.

I’m pretty sure they would get through a couple bottles of absinthe, champagne, or something else high-end, and come up with the Evil Kitty clothing line, based out of my new-hometown of Chicago.

Flirty Dress$128

Oh! And the “green” aspect of the whole thing? Well, let me get this list going for you.

Number one: The designer of this collection is Lidia Wachowska, a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago (prestigious!), and that means it’s a woman-owned business. Also, you’ll be supporting a fresh student doing something different in the industry.

Halter Dress$172

Number two: Wachowska sent me this statement regarding their interest in the “green” field (no pun intended): “…All of our fabrics are purchased from US mills or local distributors and fabric stores. We  work with a local manufacturer, who is located 5 blocks from our studio. We reduce the carbon footprint to the minimum there and at the same support the local economy. Only some of our fabrics are “green,” but we would like to expend the range in the future.” So, in helping out this brazen student, already facing the nasty-tastic economy while doing something different, your support would allow her to expand her line into a green… a green… a green WONDERLAND for us all to play in, evil kitty-like.

Ribbon Top$68

Now, onto my absolute favorite piece yet.

Evil Necklace$58

It’s an E! With horns! For evil! But also for my name! My name is Elle! I need to have this necklace (which is a collaboration between Wachowska and jewelry designer, Janet of Janet Jewelry).

Another excellent piece of this Evil Kitty puzzle: the shipping. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been screwed on shipping, making the “inexpensive”-ness of the original product pretty much irrelevant. Fortunately, Wachowska’s got a handle on this shipping business, and presents a no-regret, no-anger method of pricing: “Shipping is $6.00 for the first items, then $2 per each item after that.” Easy. Not a scam. Exactly what I look for in my shipping.

Visit Evil Kitty‘s online shop for more dresses, tops, jewelry, pants, and pretty much everything else.
