[[Once a week I ask the same bleary-eyed question: “What about Wednesday?” It’s my day to post whatever the hell I feel like, with no regard to fashion, eco-consciousness or, occasionally, even coherent thoughts.]]

When my feminist friends told me how rude, inconsiderate and utterly chauvinistic Twilight was, I thought they were exaggerating.  Wow, was I wrong.  How can women consider a character that is so mean and dismissive, always looks a little constipated, and wears mime makeup…”sexy”?

I’ve been tweeting about the film all day, so in an effort to be kind to the Twilight-loving readers out there I’ll keep my ranting to a minimum…for now.

Let’s leave it at this: I’d take the Buffyverse over Twilight any day.

“In this re-imagined narrative, Edward Cullen from the Twilight Series meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It’s an example of transformative storytelling serving as a pro-feminist visual critique of Edward’s character and generally creepy behavior. Seen through Buffy’s eyes, some of the more sexist gender roles and patriarchal Hollywood themes embedded in the Twilight saga are exposed – in hilarious ways. Ultimately this remix is about more than a decisive showdown between the slayer and the sparkly vampire. It also doubles as a metaphor for the ongoing battle between two opposing visions of gender roles in the 21ist century.”

(For those that are curious: yes – an emphatic yes – I will have much more to say on this topic soon.  Guaranteed.)

Your tweets have been fab – I particularly liked the one about the ‘romantic moments’. Sometimes no actually means hell yes? Hm.

  5. I haven’t actually seen Buffy or Twilight though I’ve read the book, but that’s besides the point.
This video really made me giggle. Creepy Edward indeed.
