You know what I’m really, really into right now? Things that don’t go together. Not in the “stripes and plaid” way – or the “eighties and anything else please stop with the eighties” way…more in the “casually glamorous” way.

It’s about being feminine and pretty, but still tough enough to get grit under your nails:

  • Tee shirts and high-waisted skirts.
  • Sparkles and denim.
  • Functional zippers and flirty, pleated shoulders.

Right now, all the things in my closet that scream “Bad ass!” are being thrown together with the stuff that quotes love poems and drinks good wine…and I think they’re getting along.

Nixxi Keyhole Tie Top in Rose Pink, Stella McCartney Skinny Jeans
Stella McCartney Wedges, Dirty Librarian Chains Source Bracelet

I will always have a soft spot for soft pinks and school-inspired necklines.  (Is she a librarian?  A student?  Just really fond of pink?)  Vintage chains (the bracelet above or the earrings), dingy grey jeans and sky-high wedges are something I’d never expect to see with this top…which is why I love it.

The Battalion Jerrica, AngelRox The Pencil, Neuaura Kiwi

Yes, that is bright yellow, houndstooth and gold.  This shirt definitely has a bad-ass factor – those are bronze nail heads at the shoulders - while the houndstooth skirt keeps it classy.  I’m a huge fan of working outfits that don’t contain fashion neutrals – brown and black – so pairing this with gold heels is key.  (I do support the idea of black fingernails, though, for added bad-assery.)

Ryann Joan Top, AngelRox Wideleg Trousers in Antique Gold
Stella McCartney Ankle Boots, The Urge To Adorn Bee

The red lips are a must for this outfit, and are the only accessory you need if you can rock it.  (The bee is definitely optional – though I love it, it’s not quite the perfect fit.)  I like to think of this style as a mix of silver screen glamour and modern rocker – it’s adventurous, but fun.  (It also looks extremely comfortable.)

*LA Boutique The Rumer Jacket, EDUN Zig Zag Cami
Stella McCartney Jeans, Wanted Camilla Boot

There is so much one can do with this outfit, not to mention the pieces alone.  I didn’t want to make clutter, but check out the gazillion accessories that go with it (and about half of the outfits I’ve already listed):

House and Wear Jive Clutch, Kezha Hatier Anemone Ring, Azuri Abyss Wrap

A pretty coin purse adds softness, the ring is…well, a little scary, and the wrap is great if you’re just not ready for a cropped motorcycle jacket (or if your boobs ruin the effect…which mine do).

However!! If you hate the flat boots trend, as I know some of you are wont to do, there are ballet and pump options, too:

Neuaura Tapir, Neuaura Kettle

In am in. love. with those flats.  Neutral, but eye-catching (and all vegan leather, of course).

What do you think of this combination?
Would you let your “bad girl” clothes play with your pretty things, or are they meant to stay separate?

I have loved those Stella wedges for so, so long. I love them with the pink shirt and the jeans, too! That entire outfit is so, so sweet.

Agreed!!!! Mix/Match any all pieces and elements. I don’t think it’s about “rules” anymore with fashion…. it’s all about “owning it”. Whatever you wear you have to wear with confidence and if asked “what the @#@$! were you thinking”…. just justify it.
I love mixing uncommon elements- like tonal colors or mixed patterns or different looks. Just Own It.
