“This bridge will only take you halfway there
To those mysterious lands you long to see:
Through gypsy camps and swirling Arab fairs
And moonlit woods where unicorns run free.
So come and walk awhile with me and share
The twistling trails and wondrous worlds I’ve known.
But this bridge will only take you halfway there–
The last few steps you’ll have to take alone.”
There is little better than a good book and a cup of coffee on a cold night.
All the better if that book is full of childhood nostalgia, from a revolutionary who thought that hope, creativity and an odd silliness were some of the most important qualities a person could posess.
It leaves me imagining that I might be able to unbutton the back of my shirt, let some wings grow, and fly away into the night.
If I had one holiday wish, it wouldn’t be for all of you to suddenly become environmental activists. It would be that, for the next couple of weeks, you allow yourselves to be kids again. It’s the best part of the holidays, and of being young…and in my view, “young” can last your entire life.
Happy holidays, everyone!
