Stella McCartney Partners With Peta Against the Leather Industry | Awakened Aesthetic

I’m not a big fan of PETA’s tactics to showcase a pro-vegan lifestyle – they body-shame, joke about sexual violence and  capitalize on human murder – but I am a big fan of Stella McCartney’s vegan fashion designs.  Though McCartney uses no animal byproducts – limiting her compared to other designers – her collections are always beautiful.  I love her clean, feminine aesthetic and dream of a day when I can afford her designs at retail prices…so I guess I can forgive her direct collaboration with PETA on the video below, which was created to showcase the animal and environmental price of leather.

**Warning: This video contains graphic images of malnourished, sick, abused and dead cattle.**

I’m loathe to imagine myself never wearing leather oxfords again, but this video makes a damned fine point. If I’m going to wear any animal product, it had better be manufactured using ethical slaughter techniques, natural tanning processes and overall happy cows. But is that even possible? I’ll be doing more research over the coming weeks to find out.

In the meantime, enjoy a thousand Stella McCartney designs in this handy dandy slideshow. Ethical eye candy!
