The Hunger Games is huge right now: the new movie, based on the first book in a trilogy by Suzanne Collins, opens in eight days, and I can’t decide whether or not I’m going to read the book first! I don’t normally get into the hype, but I have to admit that the story of Katniss Everdeen and her struggle in the nation of Panem sounds really, really cool.
“Twenty-four are forced to enter. Only the winner survives. In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Each year, the districts are forced by the Capitol to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the Hunger Games, a brutal and terrifying fight to the death – televised for all of Panem to see.
“Survival is second nature for sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who struggles to feed her mother and younger sister by secretly hunting and gathering beyond the fences of District 12. When Katniss steps in to take the place of her sister in the Hunger Games, she knows it may be her death sentence. If she is to survive, she must weigh survival against humanity and life against love.”
No lie: I’d die valiantly, but I’d also probably die first.
On a completely unrelated note, I was shopping for three-free spring nail polishes today (watch this video for an explanation on what three free is) and found out that China Glaze is a three-free brand. China Glaze is used in nearly every nail salon I’ve ever been to, so this is kind of a big deal.
To tie it all together, I then discovered that China Glaze created a collection inspired exclusively by the Hunger Games.
Each color is inspired by one of the twelve districts in the Hunger Games universe, so let’s start with District 1 and work our way up. Click either the name of the polish or the image of the polish to buy.
Luxe and Lush (District 1 – Luxury)
Stone Cold (District 2 – Masonry)
Riveting (District 3 – Technology)
Hook and Line (District 4 – Fishing)
Electrify (District 5 – Power)
Fast Track (District 6 – Transportation)
Mahogany Magic (District 7 – Lumber)
Dress Me Up (District 8 – Textiles)
Harvest Moon (District 9 – Grain)
Fois Gras (District 10 – Livestock)
Agro (District 11 – Agriculture)
Smoke & Ashes (District 12 – Mining)
I haven’t picked up the China Glaze Hunger Games collection yet, so I can’t speak for its awesomeness in person, but Ommorphia Beauty Bar can! Their review is really comprehensive (and includes swatches), so if you’re on the fence about one of the above colors, please check it out!
