T-Shirt Tuesday: High End Stripes

There’s this phrase that keeps playing in my head: yachty with a twist. What it means, in its purest essence, is clean lines, a bit of nautical flair, bold colors (paired always with cream or white), and a set of stripes.

In my opinion, a striped t-shirt is a necessary summer staple. They’re simple, flattering, not too fussy, and most importantly, they’re timeless. Buying a well-made sustainable striped t-shirt is like finding your perfect pair of jeans: you’ll wear it every season, you’ll repair it if the stitching pulls, and it will look as classic five years from now as it does today.

London-based label Chinti and Parker is focused solely on designing stylish staples, which includes the classic striped tee. Everything they create is ethically manufactured, of course, and each item’s hang tag lists its environmental clout. Their wares sell at places like FarFetch and Net-A-Porter, so not only are the ethics sound, but the manufacturing and style are top notch.

 

The Stripe Sailor Tee ($133) is obviously nautical…except that’s not pure white, it’s off-white, and the chest-down stripes and three-quarter sleeves are a bit more modern. The blue is still too obvious for me, though, and I’d go with red.

 

Pockets!!! This is a squeal-worthy moment for me. And since I don’t feel good when I wear a ton of yellow, the yellow accents on the Breton Sailor top ($125) are perfect.

 

These wide stripes are not going to make you look fat. Wearing the wrong size will make you “look fat.” Who cares about looking fat anyway? Wear what you want, damn it, whether or not that includes this striped organic cotton t-shirt ($120).
